There are 63 smiling dog faces available for adoption right now at MADACC! All ready to go (spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, 6 months and older) dogs are currently part of our adoption promo that makes their adoption fee $75!
From small to large dogs there is a dog for just about anybody at MADACC. Before adopting any animal please be sure to do your research on the breed and differences in care.
After you do your research come on down to MADACC and meet your new best furiend.
Note: All dogs will be spayed/neutered before leaving the building with an adopter even if their picture here shows that they are not yet altered. In the case of adopting a dog that is not yet altered you will come back on the afternoon of their surgery to take your new pup home.
Adoption hours are Monday-Friday 11am-6pm and Saturday-Sunday 11am-4pm. MADACC is located at 3839 W Burnham St, Milwaukee, WI 53215.

Signed up for Free Vaccine Clinic sponsored by Fruends of MADACC?
This is a friendly reminder of the event details:
📅 Date: Saturday, July 19, 2025
🕗 Time: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
📍 Location: Urban Ecology Center – Washington Park
(1859 N 40th St, Milwaukee, WI 53208)
On the day of the event, please arrive with all dogs on leash (or in carrier) and all cats in carriers. Puppies under 5 months who do not have complete vaccines should be carried as parvo is very contagious and out in the environment - we are seeing MANY cases at MADACC, and we do not treat parvo. Do not allow dogs to meet each other in order to avoid potential fights.
Please park in the Urban Ecology Parking lot or in the street nearby wherever parking is permitted. Walk ups will be permitted for this clinic.
We are thrilled to be out in the community helping those in need so their beloved pets can stay healthy and happy in homes ❤️

🐾 Open vs. Closed Adoptions: What’s the Difference?
When you adopt from an animal shelter, you might hear the terms open adoption and closed adoption — but what do they actually mean?
🔓 Open Adoptions
In an open adoption model, shelters focus on supporting potential adopters rather than screening them out. The goal is to match pets with loving homes by removing unnecessary barriers.
• ✔️ Focus on conversations, not checklists
• ✔️ Adopters are trusted to know what’s best for their household
• ✔️ Staff offer guidance, not judgment
💡 Open adoption doesn’t mean “give animals to anyone” — it means working with people to set them and the pet up for success.
🔒 Closed Adoptions
In a closed adoption model, shelters may have strict policies or requirements that must be met before someone can adopt.
• ❌ Home visits, landlord verification, or vet reference checks
• ❌ May deny adoptions based on lack of yard, income, or experience
• ❌ Can unintentionally exclude good homes
• ❌ Often rooted in outdated ideas about who “deserves” a pet
While closed adoptions are often well-intentioned, they can lead to longer stays for pets in shelters — and missed opportunities for loving placements.
⸻
🐶 Bottom line: Open adoptions build trust and remove barriers so more animals can go home — and stay home. Because every pet deserves love, and every person deserves the chance to give it.
